Kirkland’s Oracle Retail MOM solution upgrade

Kirkland’s, a leading specialty retailer of home decor in the United States with over 320 stores occupying 35 states and consistently growing, has successfully upgraded all MOM solutions with Quickborn’s support.

Kirkland’s originally went live with Oracle Merchandising solutions including Retail Merchandising System, Retail Price Management, Retail Sales Audit and Allocations in October 2012 and continued to implement Oracle Retail Planning Applications, including Merchandise Financial Planning, Assortment Planning and Item Planning, with implementation support from Quickborn Consulting including business processes and performance improvements. Quickborn also designed and implemented changes on system configuration and infrastructure accordingly.

Quickborn and Kirkland’s kicked-off the upgrade of all MOM modules (RMS, RPM, Alloc, ReSA) from v13.1.7 to v14.1 and database upgrade to v12c in November 2015. Quickborn successfully accomplished the project after a few months’ pause over the peak holiday periods in June 2016 accompanied with the delivery of high quality scripts and superior system performance.

Optimization was done on every step and all scripts needed for the upgrade process using the test and development environments; the total run time of the upgrade run was reduced from ~200 hours to less than 60 hours which allowed us to proceed with the deployment in production efficiently over a weekend with zero business activity interruption.

Quickborn also provided on-site user training to Kirkland’s on new and changed functions as well as corresponding training materials for all involved modules. The transition after Go-Live went smoothly and the outcome brought great user satisfaction.

Following the success of the MOM upgrade, Kirkland’s is considering upgrading their Oracle Retail Planning modules to the Oracle cloud in collaboration with Quickborn in 2017.

Quickborn currently provides 24×7 system monitoring, incident detection, recovery support, system fixes and enhancement services for Kirkland’s entire set of Oracle Retail Applications in production along with further functional and technical system improvement recommendations and opportunities.
